Confidence Building & Development
Confidence for horse riders can fluctuate for many reasons; we can have a bad experience and begin riding with our fear, we can doubt ourselves which eats away self-belief, and we can become less risk adverse.
Our passion for horses can continue – our coaches can help you improve your confidence, and analyse your approach to setbacks, and how you manage riding related anxiety. This course takes advantage of the latest Racewood Eventing Simulator technology, as well as school horses for progression of confidence at your own pace. There are class sessions for goal setting, and to reflect on your approach to fear and anxiety.
For those booking please be aware that in horse riding, there is a strong positive correlation between frequency and confidence. The more often a person rides, the more confident they tend to become. This is because consistent riding increases a rider’s skills, balance, and familiarity with horses, which in turn reduces anxiety and boosts self-assurance.
Who it’s for
Riders having a dip in confidence, or those feeling anxiety returning to riding.
Confidence Building & Development
| Session 1 | Class room discussion with a coffee looking at goal setting, and mapping a pathway forward. Unlocking the doors we have closed with our fear and anxiety | The session is followed by a simulator session - looking at current riding and confidence levels |
| Session 2 | Yard session - reading horse behaviour. Understanding how the horse feels, when he is in tension, and when he is relaxed. This helps riders read the effect we have on the ridden horse - and the first steps in trusting horses again. Riders will then assist the coach in preparing their horse for an arena session. | Arena ridden session on a school horse, reading how the horse feels, with the coach taking riders at their own pace. |
| Session 3 | Simulator session - building on feedback of the arena session -utilsing the predictable environment of the simulator to do so. | Classroom - Riders will choose a riding test over a hot or cold drink, and learn it with their coach - in preparation to ride next time. The test can be modified and adapted to suit riders to show their strengths. The riding test creates a focus of a task, and builds achievement for riders. |
| Session 4 | Riders will prepare their horse and ride their test. Coaches will video the test (on the riders device) giving a chance for analysis and feedback. | Classroom - Riders will look back at their tests with a hot or cold drink and discuss the positives of carrying this out. Riders will revisit the goal setting session, measuring where they are, and refocussing the next steps based on current progress. |
| Session 5 | Simulator session - rider biomechanics focus, and strength building. Working to increase the confidence we have in our own bodies. | Arena - Coach rider demo - to help riders learn through observation, focusing on areas the rider is developing. After this riders will choose and adapt another riding test to ride for the final session. |
| Session 6 | Riders will prepare their horse and ride the chosen test - this will be supported and videoed again by their coach. | Classroom - riders will compare their videos from the course with a hot or cold drink. Riders will look at the set goals, and how they have worked through to achieve so far - they will also look at mapping a pathway ahead to follow. Riders have the option to re-book the course if they want to continue their supported journey in this way. |
